TOWERBOSCH NEWS
All brides are beautiful and after every wedding
there is a story to tell – a few more
interesting than others. One bride decided to
cool off in the pool in full regalia – newlywed,
gallant groom joined her, of course, but did so
with a dive. But he misjudged the shallow end
and hit his ankle on the edge. The pain reared
its ugly head the following morning and after
much medical deliberation, (the bride, groom and
most of the guests were medical people) it was
decided he had broken a bone in his foot! Went
on honeymoon to Zanzibar in a foot brace!
Feet remained the talking point: one bride had
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SHOES (agreed upon by the
whole of Knorhoek) and while taking photographs
on the tennis court, the photographer kicked and
broke his glass of water. As luck would have it,
the bride stepped into this and cut her foot
rather badly. After ice packs and feet up at the
guesthouse, she was an hour late for the
proceedings, sporting plastic, fish-embossed
slipslops, feet covered in plasters, NO
BEAUTIFUL WEDDING SHOES, but that did nothing to
spoil her wonderful day!
Chefs Carmen and Westley will be tying the knot
on 28 January at Towerbosch – who is doing the
catering?? We wish them a wonderful future
together. There won’t be much of a rest for them
as 34 functions have been booked until the end
of May. Their delayed honeymoon will be from 18
June – 17 July (Towerbosch staff as well –
hopefully not with them!!)
GUESTHOUSE NEWS
We are delighted that our manager, Suraine is
expecting their first baby in August. Her
wedding photos have been used in much marketing
material, what will we do with the baby photos??
Despite the struggling world economy, our
occupation statistics have on average been the
same as last year. We were fully booked almost
every Saturday, hosting wedding parties –
enjoying seeing everyone dressed to the nines
and of course, the beautiful brides , then
eavesdropping on the dissection of the wedding
at breakfast the following morning. We
installed air conditioning in both cottages this
year, and what a good decision it was!! 43
degrees on the farm this month.

WINE CELLAR NEWS
Under the watchful eyes of the owls, the wine
tasting area has been a buzz of activity for the
last few months. About 900 people have been
taken on cellar tours, and many prospective
brides and friends have preferred the wine
tasting “kitchen teas” inside the cellar, to the
traditional get-togethers (Much to the delight
of the still-bachelor wine maker). He has put
his foot down for the next few months though;
pump-overs, grape crushing and other cellar
processes now have preference – harvest time!!
Mind you, the owls also seem to have a problem
as they are screeching, hooting and even having
a scrap or two in the parking area – much to the
surpise of the patrons.
Valentine’s day on 14 Feb can be celebrated with
Konfetti sparkling Rose on “special” @ R45 or
HORSE RIDING AT SUNSET with cheese and wine.
The moon took the patrons on the full moon ride,
for a ride, as it took rather a long time to
show its face – long after dark!! The horses
were happy as it was a lot cooler after sunset.
WINE FARM NEWS
Fortunately the heatwave has not affected our
vineyards – the crop looks promising, and will
be harvested a little later than normal. The
furry, four-footed sommeliers have tasted the
darkening berries, but are not happy with the
sugars and Ph. The water level in the storage
dam is a lot lower than normal as the rainfall
was less than previous years – after the winter
it was 2 metres short of the overflow. |
